    Description

Efficiently isolate and enumerate coliforms in food, animal feed, and environmental samples with Oxoid™ Violet Red Bile Lactose Agar (VRBLA), formulated in accordance with ISO 4832:2006 and ISO/TS 11133-2:2003 standards. This selective medium uses carefully balanced inhibitors—crystal violet, neutral red, and bile salts—to suppress non-target Gram-positive organisms, ensuring accurate coliform detection.

    Key Features:

    • Selective formulation targets coliforms while inhibiting Gram-positive bacteria
    • Visual differentiation: Rapid lactose fermenters (e.g., Escherichia, Klebsiella, Enterobacter) form red-purple colonies with halos. Slow or late fermenters form straw or colourless colonies with greenish halos
    • Supports incubation under anaerobic conditions or at >42°C for improved selectivity
    • Designed for detecting indicator organisms that signal hygiene, spoilage, or contamination levels

    Applications:

Ideal for microbiological analysis in the food industry and environmental testing labs, helping assess food safety and quality by identifying coliform contamination.

    Specifications:

    • Form: Powder
    • Type: Agar medium
    • Quantity: 500 g
    • Yield: Varies depending on preparation
    • Unit Size: Each
